It seems as if overnight, teen sensation Hilary Duff invaded television, movie, and radio. The star, who was born on September 28, 1987, has in her sixteen years quite an accomplished resume. By the age of sic, Duff was performing on the mini-series, “True Women,” with actresses Rachel Leigh cook and Dana Delaney. She also performed on stage with legend Sean Connery in the play, “Playing By Heart.” Duff hit it big when she scored the leading role on the Disney channel’s original series, “Lizzie Maguire.” Duff plays the main character. The show is about a girl named Lizzie who deals with being a teenager. It is both animated and real life. “Lizzie Maguire” immediately became a hit for the Disney Channel. It is now shown everyday at 7:30pm/eastern on the Disney Station and Saturday mornings at 10:00am/eastern on the ABC Network. In 2002, Duff starred in the original movie, “Cadet Kelly.” The movie was the highest rated Disney Channel Original in history. At this time, Walt Disney records released The Lizzie Maguire Soundtrack. This is when Duff’s musical career began. Duff was featured on the soundtrack singing “I Can’t Wait.” The song received air play on Radio Disney, and the cd eventually went platinum. In December 2002, Duff released Santa Claus Lane. The album, which featured singers such as Lil’ Romeo and Christina Milian, contained festive Christmas jingles. In 2003, Duff starred in “The Lizzie Maguire Movie.” The film did extremely well. Duff’s single, “So Why Not,” became the main song of the movie. The actress/ song bird immediately began to get attention from MTV and VH1. As her recording career boomed, her film career did as well. In December 2003, Duff’s film entitled “Cheaper By The Dozen” is scheduled to be released by 20th Century Fox. The film features Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt. In July 2003, Duff began filming “Cinderella Story” with Warner Brothers. Duff’s popularity was evident when she appeared on the Nickelodeon 15th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards in which she accepted the award for Favorite TV Series. “Lizzie Maguire” had also won the previous year. One of the reasons people are so attracted to the teenage Duff is her down-to-earth personality. Duff continues to swim, tumble, and rollerblade. She lives with her parents, sister, and two dogs in their homes in Houston and Los Angeles. Duff serves on the board of the Audrey Hepburn Children’s’ benefit Fund and the Celebrity Council of Kids With A Cause.
